A few things to remember when designing a web page:

Make sure it is visually appealing.  You can't just write 8 lines of text and expect people to come back.  Add pictures, graphics, animations, and sound when at all possible.1

Your page reflects your personality.  Remember it can be your first impression for a lot of people, so think about what you're putting up.

Have fun, and be creative.  These wonderful programs we use with predesigned pages are great for starting off, but once you learn a little more, update your page with a personal touch.
